Drexel Lee Dorris Obituary

Drexel Lee Dorris of Owensboro went to be with his Heavenly Father February 14 at the age of 84. He retired from National Southwire Aluminum Company after 32 years of service. Drexel was a United States Air Force Veteran who served during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Guam. He worked for Audubon Community Services for seven years driving a Green River Intra-County Transit (GRITS) bus whose patrons loved him dearly for his kind service. Beginning at childhood, he was best known for his love of horses where he enjoyed showing, training, trail riding, and helping others with their horses. He was a champion natural horsemanship trainer. Drexel was honored to be recognized as a Kentucky Colonel. Because of his love for the Lord, he served as deacon at Walnut Memorial Baptist Church in Owensboro. Drexel proposed to Faye Hardison, his Rose, on Valentine’s Day 1960 and he took his last breath on Valentine’s Day 65 years later. It is the greatest love story ever told!

Drexel was preceded in death by his parents; Abra Blakely Dorris and Willyne Anderson Dorris, sisters Mary Johnson and Betty Gray.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Hardison Dorris of 64 years of marriage. He is also survived by sisters: Jo (Don) McCormick of Frankfort, KY; sister Diane Brown of Danville, KY; Aprile (Howard) Hunt of Danville, KY and several special nieces and nephews.
