David Hayes McDowell, 72, of Lexington went home to be with the Lord, Friday evening, February 14, 2025 at his residence.

David was born November 15, 1952 to the late Jessie McDowell, Jr. and Mary Lou Kindley McDowell in Davidson County. He married Brenda Carlyle March 8, 1975. David worked in the local area for Theodore Alexander where he retired after 33 years. He faithfully attended Southgate Baptist Church in Thomasville. David enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting, raising goats, upholstery, and most of all music. He had a God given talent with an exceptional ear for music and served in the local church for many years leading the choir and singing solos. David was a genuine and humble man that will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Dale McDowell; a sister, Nancy McDowell.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Brenda C. McDowell of the home; a son Davin McDowell and wife Erica of Lexington; a daughter, Denise Harden of Thomasville; six siblings, Jesse Lee McDowell, Lillie Campbell (Robert), Mae Echerd (Bob), Darrell McDowell, Ann Ingle, Jeanet Hedrick (Ronald); three grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, and Kristin; a great-grandchild, Callie.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Russel Fox and Rev. Robert Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville. The family will greet friends Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Hospice of Davidson County.
