Mary Ruth (Ickes) Boyd, age 79 of Monroeville, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025 in her home surrounded by love and her family. Mary Ruth was born December 6, 1945 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania to the late Sherman and Mary (Boyer) Ickes. 

She was a 1964 graduate of Gateway High School. In 1966, she married her beloved husband, David Paul Boyd, Sr. that would last a loving 53 years. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her brother, John Ickes, and many beloved pets. Mary Ruth was a beloved wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother (Da), cherished great-grandmother, caring sister, and admirable friend. 

Mary Ruth is survived by her children, Sue (Bob) Hlavsa and David (Beth) Boyd, Jr.; grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Boyd, Chad (Jeana) Wynn, Chelsea (Russ) Lehosky, and Kaeleigh Hlavsa (Eric Hastings, Jr.); great-grandchildren, Aubree Boyd, Riley Lehosky, Cooper Wynn, Russ Lehosky, Jr., and Leena Wynn; sister, Aine (late Wayne) Ickes-Elesner; and dearest best friend of 50 years, Judy Ankenbrandt. 

In Mary Ruth’s early years, she worked as an administrative assistant for W.F. Berry Associates Inc. while also working at JC’s Haunted House during her favorite time of the year, Halloween. Mary Ruth would go on to work at Rudy Submarines where she met Maureen and Mary Ann, and created life-long friendships. Mary Ruth was very active in the community and was a member of the Historical Society, 4th of July Committee, Allegheny County Democratic Committee, Election Polls, Marine Corps, and Monroeville Chamber of Commerce where she was named Woman of the Year.

Mary Ruth enjoyed coaching softball and leading her team to a championship win, cooking, being a number one supporter to Dave’s dirt track and drag racing, gardening, canning, drawing, Halloween, her animals, spending time with friends, watching her favorite movie, The Polar Express, and trips to Bedford, Pennsylvania. Her biggest love and enjoyment was her family and being actively involved in their lives by attending numerous sporting events, daily conversations, dinner dates, family gatherings, parties, holidays, and special events. 

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 1 PM until the time of Memorial Service at 2 PM at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL), 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Mary Ruth was a huge supporter of animal charities and rescuing animals.
