Hester M. Chapman Obituary

St. Johnsville - Hester M. Chapman, a long-time St. Johnsville resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Mt. Valley Hospice, Gloversville, NY.

She was born in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Gabriel and June (Nadeau) Mitchell and was educated in Connecticut.

On October 9, 1962, Hester was united in marriage to John Chapman in Orlando, Florida. The couple shared a blessed union of 39 years until the passing of John in May of 2002.

Hester was last employed at the former Sentinel Packing Industry in St. Johnsville.

Hester will always be remembered by her friends for her inspirational writing.

Survivors include her son, John H. Chapman and wife Mary of Amsterdam; siblings, Patricia, Lumina, Richard, Rebecca, and Theresa; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by two daughters, Rachel Chapman on June 4, 2007, and Wanda Chapman on February 17, 2023, and two siblings, Gabe and Cheryl.

In keeping with Hester’s wishes, burial will be at Fountain Hill Cemetery, Deep River, Connecticut, at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family-operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY.
