Nina Lee (Tison) Lockyear, 89, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.
Nina was born in Harrisburg, Illinois on July 2, 1935 to the late Elbert Ray and Ada Pearl (Morse) Tison. Her family moved to Evansville during World War II in 1943. Nina attended Henry Reis Elementary School and moved to Baker School in the 3rd grade where she completed elementary school. Her family then moved to the west side of Evansville where she attended Reitz High School, graduating in 1953. She worked for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation as a secretary for 8 years and went on to work for Judge Matthews and Judge Dietsch in the Vanderburgh County Superior Court for another 32 years. Nina and Tom went on many cruises and purchased a motorhome, traveling all over the United States and into Canada. They eventually purchased a lot in Gulf Shores, Alabama where they spent the winter months. They loved when their family and friends visited in Gulf Shores. She was proud of the fact that she had been able to visit every state, except two, in her motorhome. Nina was a woman of deep faith, attending Christian Fellowship Church for many years.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ochsner; son, Jeff Horstketter; grandchildren, Laura Cox, Bryan Ochsner, and Alana Horstketter; and by her great-grandchildren, Kylee Cox, Brayden Cox, Drezden May, Avianna Slayton, Marley Ochsner, Gerald "JJ" Ochsner, Valyn Ochsner and Kinzley James; sister-in-law, Judith McCool; brother-in-law, Joseph Horstketter; and by many nieces and nephews.
Nina was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Horstketter in 1969; by her second husband, Tom Lockyear in 2012; by her parents; sister, Maxine Miller (Fred); brothers, Lowell Tison (Earlene) and Gene Tison (Lorraine); and by her grandson, Joshua Horstketter.
