Lonnie M. Scott Obituary

Mother, Lonnie Mae Scott, our beautiful queen, transitioned into her heavenly home on February 15th, 2025 with her nurturing faithful family by her side. Lonnie Mae was born on July 19th, 1936 to the union of Harvey L. Bobo and Rosie L. (Blackburn) Bobo in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Lonnie Mae accepted Christ at an early age and remained a devoted Christian throughout her life. In 1954, Lonnie graduated from Richard B Harrison High School, where she was active in her community by participating in sports and 4-H activities.  While in Blytheville, she met the love of her life, and joined in holy matrimony with  Edward Scott on September 25th, 1954 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Lonnie and Edward remained loving and devoted  to each other for 59 incredible years together, from this union, eight children were born, that Lonnie loved and cherished until her last breath.

She is survived by her devoted children, Lougine Scott of Brandenton, FL, John (Tonya) Scott of Oak Forest, IL, Eleanor Carver, Elaine (Richard) Harris, and Joseph Scott all of Elkhart, IN and Robert (Candice) Scott of Oakland, CA. A doting big sister to Mary Douglas of Rantoul, IL, Wanda Washington of Gosnell, AR, Leona (Leroy) Tate of Blytheville, AR, and sister in law Ora Lee Bobo of Osceola, AR. She was greeted in heaven with open arms by her parents Harvey and Rosie, her loving husband, Rev. Edward Scott, parents-in-laws, John and Lizzie Murphy and two children; David Scott and Irma Jackson. As well as her brothers, Virgil Bobo, Leon Poe Sr and Garland Bobo; sisters Rosetta Agee, and Cordie Murphy.

From Cleveland, Ohio Lonnie and Edward established their roots in Elkhart, IN welcomed by the lineage of Garland and Mary Blackburn’s close knit family. Lonnie was an endearing mother and extraordinary selfless woman whose love was limitless. In 1998, Lonnie retired from Elkhart General Hospital after 26 successful years of service. After retirement she immersed herself in her hobbies, and family. Lonnie was an avid lover of gardening, outdoor activities, sewing, camping and traveling. Lonnie was the sole owner of her business Loni’s Homemade Sweets, where to this day people still rave about her rolls, cakes and various desserts.

An unwavering servant to the Lord, she demonstrated that “Faith without works is dead.” Lonnie was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Her service to the Lord was endless and served faithfully as Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Choir and Kitchen, Mother’s Board and several other auxiliaries. A true missionary, she cared for the elderly, she was devoted to helping and uplifting those around her.

Lonnie was a rare gem. Her memory will be forever treasured and cherished by her 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, who will carry her love, humor, and guidance with them and share that amongst generations to come. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friends will cherish her memory always.

Lonnie’s radiant and infectious smile touched everyone who crossed her path. A friend to many and a stranger to few, she touched many lives and made an impact on every person who knew her.
