Ruth Engh Westrick, 84, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025 at PioneerCare Center, Fergus Falls, MN. Ruth was born October 11, 1940, to Clarence “Rutz” and Helen Engh in Fargo, ND. She was raised in Fargo and attended Agassiz for grades 1-8 before graduating from Fargo Central High School with the Class of 1958. Ruth continued her education at the Sisters of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing (SSJSN), earning her nursing degree in 1961.

On December 8, 1961, Ruth married Ronald Westrick in Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Fargo. Ruth dedicated her career to caring for others, teaching at SSJSN in Fargo before working as a pediatric registered nurse at Dakota Clinic, where she remained until her retirement.

Beyond her professional life, Ruth found joy in sewing, music, and crafting. She treasured time spent with family and friends and was deeply involved with both her Fargo Central High School Class of 1958 Alumni classmates and with SSJSN of North Dakota Alumni. She had a strong connection with her classmates, actively planning reunions and enjoying lake luncheons. Ruth also cherished her coffee gatherings with the 10th Ave. Gang: Sandi, Kay and Larry, finding friendship and laughter in their company.

Ruth is survived by her four children: Sue (Roger) Lewis, of Fergus Falls, MN, Ron (Brenda) Westrick, Dan Westrick and Bill (Carol) Westrick of Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren: Zac (Brianna) Lewis, Nick (Betsy) Lewis, Amanda (Todd) Biederman, Bailee (Jordan) Noriega, Zach Noriega, Sam Westrick, Jacob (Haley) Westrick, Molly Westrick and Emily Westrick and six great-grandchildren: Ty Lewis, Bode & Callan Lewis, Clark & Sylvie Biederman and Delta Mae Westrick. Other survivors include her brother Tom (Rabbit) Engh and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard Engh and D. Michael “Mike” Engh, her nephew Todd Engh and sisters-in law Eileen Ann Engh and Eileen Gladys Engh.

Ruth’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to those she loved will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A service to honor Ruth’s life will be held at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, at 11am on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, with visitation 1 hour prior. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service, also at West Funeral Home.
