Madeleine Maryann Haller Obituary

Madeleine Haller
1927 - 2025

With love and admiration, we remember the life of Madeleine Maryann Haller (Voisin), who left us peacefully at the age of 97 on February 14, 2025. She was a remarkable woman-resilient, devoted and fiercely independent-a true beacon of light and the guiding force in our family.

She was the beloved wife for 44 years of the late Ross Haller (1993). She was a devoted mother to four-Stephen Haller (Bernie Kowalczyk), Ann Haller-Lovell (James Lovell), Cynthia Haller (Jeffrey Fredenburgh) and the late Deborah Alamenciak. Also survived by her son-in-law Ed Alamenciak. Loving grandmother (affectionately known as Nana) Jeffrey Haller (Nicole), Jennifer Haller-Buchanan, Timothy Alamenciak (Emily), Kelly Lovell, and David (Amber), James, and Maxwell (Meighan) Fredenburgh. From her, we learned the value of astute wisdom and boundless strength. In her long and well-lived life, Madeleine was also blessed to become a great-grandmother to Kady, Reid, Oliver, Miles and Ben.

Born in Kitchener, Madeleine was the daughter of George and Anna Voisin and the eldest of seven children. Even from a young age, she embraced the role of leader, nurturing and guiding her siblings with a sense of responsibility far beyond her years. Though she was the eldest, she outlived all but her younger brother Larry Voisin (Ann)-a testament to her indomitable spirit. Madeleine was a natural matriarch, leading with grace and a generous heart, qualities that defined her as she built her own family and remained a steadfast guide to all who knew her, including friends, her parish community, bridge club partners, and anyone fortunate enough to be touched by her life.

Madeleine was a lifelong volunteer and an active member of her community, dedicating over 40 years to St. Mary's General Hospital. In recognition of her tireless service, the hospital's gift shop Madeleine's was named in her honour-a lasting tribute to her legacy of service and dedication. Her many community contributions and accolades include Oktoberfest Rogers Women of the Year (1988), the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, awarded by the Governor General of Canada (1992); the Provincial Life Member Award from the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario (1999); her appointment as Honourary Director of the St. Mary's General Hospital Foundation in recognition of her significant contributions to fundraising efforts; the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton Mission Legacy Award (2008); and the St. Mary's General Hospital Volunteer Associates Legacy Award for her long-standing service from 1969 to 2009. These honours reflect the profound impact and steadfast commitment to service that Madeleine exemplified throughout her life.

Madeleine’s endless generosity, independent spirit and unwavering leadership are qualities that will live on in each of us. Independent to her last breath, Madeleine passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. We are deeply grateful for the wonderful support of her exceptional caregivers including Carmen (Margo) and Lony and also her dear friends especially Anne Darby that surrounded her with compassion and care in her final months.

Though she may have laid down her crown as the matriarch of our family, we can trust that her enduring spirit lives on-forever our guardian angel, in life and in heaven.

Madeleine's family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 - 10:45 AM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at St. Francis R.C. Church, 49 Blueridge Ave., Kitchener. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM followed by a reception.
