Alice Collins passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 102 years. Alice was raised on Temple Farm in Sharon, Ontario, the third of six children of Frank and Ethel Ramsay. Alice loved growing up on her family’s dairy farm, renowned for many of York County’s award-winning Holsteins. At the age of 20, Alice joined the war effort and assisted with the production of Mosquito bombers for de Havilland Aircraft near Toronto. In 1945, Alice married Dr. Harry Collins and moved to Saskatoon, where they raised seven children.
Alice’s passion was landscape painting. She travelled the countryside in her van, which was her studio. Standing in front of her easel in a field of canola, or by a lake, or surrounded by mountains, Alice challenged herself, experimenting with colour and technique. Displayed in homes across Canada, these paintings are a testament to Alice’s significant talent.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, her husband Harry; son Michael; son-in-law Ken Marland; siblings Erma, Bernice, Bruce, Brock and Raymond; and her devoted partner of thirteen years, Dr. Cecil Robinson. She is survived by her daughters Harriett, George-Ann, and Frances (Byron) Werry; daughter-in-law Marlie; her sons Robert, David and William. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren who remember a loving grandmother who was influential in their lives, and by eleven much beloved great-grandchildren.
Our family sends love and gratitude to Dr. Cecil Robinson’s family for their kindness and support of Alice over the years.
A Celebration of Alice’s Life will be held this summer in Saskatoon.
