Angelo M. DiMedio Obituary

Angelo DiMedio of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2025 at the age of 98.

Beloved husband to the late Maria (nee Deramo). Devoted father of Angela Reiher (nee John), Anna Dorazio (Vince), and Maria Mastrippolito (Gino). Second dad to his nephew, Emidio DiMedio (Teresa). Grandfather of Natalie Dorazio, Alicia Santomero (Joey), Stephen Dorazio (McKenzie), Rebecca Sturgill (Tim), Philip Mastrippolito, and Peter Mastrippolito. Great uncle of Mario DiMedio (Jen). "Old Pop-Pop" to his great-grandchildren Antonia, Sloane, Giuseppe, and Luca. Predeceased by his parents, Emidio and Domenica (DiGugliemo), and his brothers and sisters, Nicole, Guista, Domenico, and Filomena.

Angelo was known as "Zio Angelo" to his nieces and nephews, but his immediate family called him "Ang".

Angelo was born in Civitella Messer Raimondo, Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy, on November 21, 1926. After World War II, he served in the Italian army and trained to drive Sherman tanks. In his early years in Civitella, Angelo worked as a blacksmith and also pierced women's ears. He loved to tell countless stories about making and fitting horseshoes, as well as the numerous times he repaired aqueducts in Fara San Martino to facilitate water to his hometown.

In April 1952, Angelo and Maria immigrated to the United States and settled in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. He taught himself English and learned to read the entire newspaper, which eventually became one of his nightly rituals. He also taught himself to repair all types of construction machinery. In 1963, he purchased property and opened his welding fabrication and repair shop, a Main Line staple to many construction companies, local contractors, residents and Lower Merion Township, who all utilized his services until he finally retired at the age of 93.

Education was important to Angelo. He wanted to provide his daughters with better opportunities than he had growing up. His hard work and dedication enabled him to enroll all three in catholic school, even thru their college years.

Angelo was a devout Catholic and proud parishioner of St. Denis Church. He and Maria said the rosary together every night before bed. He loved family events, dancing, tending to his garden, playing bocce and being a Knight of Columbus, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.

Angelo was a simple, hardworking, loving man devoted to his family, faith, "Paisanos" (friends), occupation and Italian heritage. He was known by many for his homemade wine, which he made every September. He enjoyed bike rides after dinner and often rode several miles as he did growing up in Italy. His fondest memories as a young man were riding his bike with Maria on the handlebars. The two would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary this spring. They reunited on Valentine's Day and likely resumed their tradition of a heart-shaped pizza and raviolis dinner.

Angelo's family is  grateful for the overwhelming love and support from all who knew and adored Angelo. They would like to extend a special thanks to Angelo's aides, Terri, Marima, Feai, and Isha, who took extraordinary care of him during his final years, before he joined Maria in Heaven.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday evening, February 21, 2025, 6:00-8:00 PM and Saturday morning February 22, 2025 10:00-11:45 AM both in the Funeral Home of John Stretch 236 E.
