Alfred Moreno Sr, a long time Irving resident, passed away after a lengthy illness on February 14, 2025, at age 86. He went to be with the Lord peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Waxahachie, TX on February 24, 1938, to Otilio and Viviana Moreno. He was the 5th child of a large family of 13 children. He was raised in a loving home of humble means and a strong Catholic faith.
Some of his younger years would include traveling to various states to pick seasonal fruit from orchards.
On October 10th, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Elvira Cantu Moreno. They celebrated 65 years of married bliss and dedicated most of their time to raising and caring for their family of 5 children.
Alfred worked for Dallas Power & Light as a technical electrician and retired after 31 years of service. He was an excellent handyman and also enjoyed working in his yard.
He was a lover of sports but specifically a Dallas Cowboys loyal fan. He never gave up hoping they would win another Superbowl. As his children grew up and became immersed in various sports, he was a very involved parent and helped to coach many of his kids’ activities. Soccer became the dominant sport for the Moreno family and Alfred was one of the first to help coach Women’s Soccer teams (Blue Bruisers and La Familia) as well as youth soccer for the Irving Soccer Association. For many years you would find the entire family out at the soccer fields practicing, playing, or just watching games.
Alfred also enjoyed occasional camping and fishing trips with his family and friends. He enjoyed family vacations and visited places such as New York, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, and Disneyland in California.
In the early 80’s, Alfred caught the urban cowboy fever, and he and Vera took dancing lessons so they could “boot scoot” the night away. He loved western movies and saw every move the “Duke” made.
Above all Alfred will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother who loved spending as much time with his family as he could. He was a soft-spoken man, well loved and respected by all who knew him.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents Viviana and Otilio as well as his brothers: Andy Moreno, Joe Moreno, and sister Francis Moreno, sister in laws: Mary, Margaret and Lupe Moreno, and brothers in laws: Tom Pavoldi and Fino Valdez.
