Melba Phaldelphia Mitchell of North Richland Hills, Texas passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025 at her home surrounded by her daughters and their families at the age of 90. She was born June 8, 1934 to Gertrude and Leslie Browning in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Melba was the middle child growing up in a small farm house north of Bokchito. She had the life of a farm family picking cotton alongside her younger brother, James and older sister, Juanita. She was the only one of her siblings to leave Oklahoma.
Melba married Jack Mitchell August 29, 1956 in Durant, Oklahoma. They had two daughters, Cheryl and Pam. In 1959 they moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Melba went to work at MAPCO Pressed Steel in 1961 in the accounting department where she worked until she retired at the age of 74 in 2008.
Melba never met a stranger and loved talking to people. She enjoyed country music and hardly ever missed a dance at the senior center where she made many friends after her retirement. More than anything, Melba loved her daughters and their families and spending time with them. She got much joy from going to her grandchildren’s sports games, birthday parties and other activities or events.
Melba is survived by her daughters Cheryl Previte and husband, Charles, of North Richland Hills, Texas and Pam Shelton and husband, Don, of Keller, Texas. Melba leaves behind grandchildren Adrian Baylor and husband Rodney, Haley McDonald and husband Dustin, Jack Previte and wife Megan, and Hannah Shelton. She also leaves behind great grandchildren Reece and Sutton Baylor, Lachlyn and Dechlyn McDonald, Zoe Previte and baby brother-to-be due in March. She also is survived by sister-in-law Linda Browning of Bokchito, Oklahoma and several nephews and nieces.
Melba is predeceased by her parents, her husband Jack, sister Juanita Deel, and brother James Browning.
