Edith Hitchens Obituary

Edith Hitchens was born on May 27, 1932 at Hazel Cliffe, Saskatchewan, a daughter to Adler and Nellie ( nee Downs) Hokanson. Edith received her education at Sintaluta. She then moved to Balcarres where she married Thorbergur Benjaminson who passed away in 1953. While in Balcarres Edith met Roy Hitchens and were united in marriage on April 24, 1956 at Indian Head, Saskatchewan. The couple moved to Balcarres in 1961 where they resided until moving to Abernethy in 1972. Edith and Roy ran the local Resturant until moving to Lemberg in 1981. While in Lemberg Edith worked as a cook for the United Grain Growers then cooked at P.C.T.C. and Fortsan Tuberculosis Centre. From there she moved to numerous other places finally settling in Melville where she entered her eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital at the age of 83 years. Edith enjoyed crafting, knitting, crocheting and reading. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Roy; father, Adler; mother, Nellie; son, Leroy; grandson, Robert Lesperance; granddaughter, Paula Lesperance and great granddaughter, Alanta Moulton; sisters, Dorthy and Dorene; brothers-in-law, Frank Fernetti and Donald Uchacz. Edith leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robert Hitchens of Glen Ewen, Ron (Barb) Hitchens of Regina, Nellie (Peter) Haywood of Abernethy, Melvin (Patricia) Hitchens of Wynyard, Eldon Hitchens of Duff, Denise Ward (Dave Williams) of Melville, Michael (Colleen) Hitchens of Birmingham, Grant (Leeann) Hitchens of Lemberg, Alanna (Clint) Read of Lemberg, Gloria (Les) Sander of Lashburn and Cory (Stacey) Hitchens of Sherwood Park; daughter-in-law, Tammy Hitchens of Edmonton; 44 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; her siblings, Melvin (Rose) Hokanson of Estavan, Henry (Lynn) Hokanson of Calgary, Wilbert (Judy) Hokanson of Edmonton; Warren Hokanson; Margaret Fernetti of Medican Hat and Sherley Uchacz of Ingersal, ON; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
