Ronald Lee Akers passed away February 7, 2025, in Owatonna, MN, surrounded by his family.
Ron was born May 7, 1948, to Melvin (Doc) and Martha (Gumm) Akers in Hooker, OK. He was the middle child between siblings Tom and Debbie. He grew up in Wichita, KS, and graduated from Derby High School in 1966. After high school, he continued his education at Central Business College, graduating in 1969 with a major in Data Processing.
Ron was married to LaGene Nimrod on July 1, 1967, and the couple had two children, Jeri and Mikel. Ron began his career at Jostens in the Topeka, KS, branch in 1969 and remained there until 1979 when the company transferred him to the Owatonna location. He ended his career working for Federated Insurance.
Ron’s hobbies included playing and watching sports. He played softball as a younger man, and golf was his go-to, which he continued through the 2024 season. When asked about his favorite activity, he always answered, “Working in my yard”. And for those of us who know about his yard, you know what that means!
Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years, LaGene, daughter Jeri (Mike) Blazek, son Mikel (Jill) Akers, sister Debbie (Rick) Brown and his grandchildren.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00-6:00 PM Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd, Owatonna) and one hour prior to the service at the church the following day. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 14, 2025, at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church (1500 18th St SE, Owatonna) with Pastor Lynn Herman officiating.
Memorials received will be donated by the family to the Bethel Baptist youth ministry fund.
