Edward R. Zera, age 89, of Fairfield, the loving husband of Sandra (Garofalo) Zera for over 42 years, passed away peacefully in the Carolton Convalescent Hospital on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Born in Bridgeport to the late John and Rose (Dawid) Zera, Ed was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Bridgeport where he received a B.S. degree in Music Education. Edward began his own business, Edward Zera School of Music as an accordion teaching studio which grew into Zera Musicland, the largest full-service and teaching music store in Connecticut. During his 57 years in business, he mentored many aspiring musicians, and was an accomplished accordionist himself. Zera Musicland supported all aspects of music education throughout Fairfield County, New England, the U.S. and Europe. Edward was a former member of the Patterson Club, a 50-year member of the Lions Club, a member of both the American Accordion Association and the CT Accordion Association. In addition to his devoted wife, Edward is survived by his daughter, Rosalyn Zera; his two grandsons, Randall (Randy) Telfer and Brendan Telfer and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Aloyzy and Alphonse Zera and their wives. Ed’s family will be forever grateful for the care he received from his aides, CC and Tian, the entire East Wing nursing staff at the Carolton, and Thierry, his nurse from VNS Hospice at Home. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Interment will be private.
