Funeral services for Lon Richard Shults are 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 16, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with interment following at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Benjamin Funeral Service.’

Lon Richard Shults passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Baptist Village Facility in Owasso. He was born March 17, 1931 in Bearden, OK to Gains Hubert and Rosella (Dunn) Shults. He was a 1949 graduate of Bearden High School and on April 21, 1951 he married the love of his life Mary Lou Meadors in Bearden. On December 30, 1950 Lon joined the United States Air Force. He was discharged on March 30, 1953 with the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Lon worked with the oil business for a few years before becoming the owner operator of the Title Abstract Company in Nowata. He ran the business for many years until his retirement. Lon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nowata. He was ordained as a deacon on August 15, 1965 and served in that capacity until his death. On June 26, 1977, he was licensed to the gospel of ministry by First Baptist Church of Nowata. He has been very active in the church serving in many capacities and even teaching Sunday school until very recently. He and Mary enjoyed traveling prior to her death in 2010. He enjoyed collecting coins and camping. Lon held a special place in his heart for all his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Lon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Lou; a son, Gary Lee Shults, and a brother, Roy Lee Shults. He is survived by a son, Richard Wayne Shults and wife Debbie of Nowata; three siblings, Jack Shults of Okemah, OK., Bobby Faye Walls of Shawnee, OK., Mary Lynn Magness of FT. Worth, TX; two grandchildren, Matthew Shults and wife Melinda of Collinsville, Kimberly Shults of Verdigris; two great-grandchildren, Mariah Shults and Mason Shults.

A family visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Benjamin Funeral Service. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Memorials in Lon’s name may be made to Baptist Village of Owasso at 7410 North 127th East Ave. Owasso, OK 74055.
