Delbert Nichols

DELBERT EUGENE (“DEL”, “GENE”) NICHOLS, 86, passed away November 11th, 2018. He was born August 7th, 1932 the son of Allen B. and Edrie (Lamblin) Nichols who preceded him in death. He was raised in Kentucky and Southern Ohio and later he met his lovely wife, Ros. The Army took him to Presidio of San Francisco where he was a computer data processor. He later returned to Ohio, living in Cleveland, then Berea. After a number of years, he returned to his roots, and settled in Springfield. He worked as a computer system analyst at Credit Life Insurance Company (CLICO). He and Ros loved gardening and were active members of the Rose Society, the YMCA, and the Fairborn Art Association. He loved birdwatching, woodworking and helping Ros with crafts. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind (Ros) who passed away in 2015; a brother, Raymond and a sister, Helen. Mr. Nichols is survived by his son David Kohn (Marjorie), his daughter, Narda Gallagher (Jim), 8 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was attended to by his dear friend and neighbor, Mr. Jim, who was an angel to Del. Del received Jesus into his heart and life because of those who came to his bedside and patted his hand. His friend Sandy and her husband began the work of plowing the ground. Later, a precious woman, Darlene, and her friends came to his bedside week after week. They reaped the harvest of the softened ground and Daddy said “yes” to Jesus. He loves flowers and plants and will especially enjoy them with Mom in that Forever Place. There they met the Savior face to face. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 19th from 12:00-12:30. A celebration of his life will be at 12:30. Burial will follow in Dayton National Cemetery.
