Ella Johnson

Deaconess Ella Golden Johnson, a native of Monroe County, AL and a long-time resident of Mobile passed peacefully at a local hospital on Friday, October 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving, devoted and caring family. As a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 75 years, she served faithfully in several ministries including her service as a Deaconess, Missionary and as a Youth Director for nearly 30 years. She is a member of Juliette Chapter 613 of the Order of Eastern Star; holds membership in the National Education Association, State and local retired education associations. Deaconess Johnson graduated in Central High School’s first class of 1947-48. She earned a B.S. Degree in 1952 with a major in mathematics. Further study in the field of mathematics was pursued at Tuskegee Institute, University of Cincinnati and Denison University in Granville, OH. Ella taught mathematics at Lott, Blount, Booker T. Washington Middle and Theodore High Schools before retiring in 1986 after thirty-one years. Several honors, awards, and recognitions received including B.T.W Teacher of the year; Juliette Chapter 613 OES Award; Mobile City Federation Senior Citizen Award; Mt. Zion Baptist Church – 128th Anniversary Award; and Deaconess-Emeritus. Deaconess Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Willie M. Dean Golden, and her husband of 57 years, Charles L. Johnson. Ella is survived by her daughter, Marilyn J. Warner of Mobile and her son, Gary M. Johnson of Atlanta, GA; 7 grandchildren Aftan, Demet, Gary, Charles, Tobias, Chances, Island Marie and 8 great grandchildren; two sisters-Violet (Albert) Lowery of Mobile and Ollye (James) Davis of Mableton, GA; two brothers- Theodore R. Golden of Mobile and Edward (Maxine) Golden of Atlanta, GA; two sisters-in-law Barbara Johnson of Eight Mile, AL and Rose J.
