Willie Carl Alexander

Mr. Willie Carl Alexander, age 71, passed on Thursday, Nov 12, 2015, at Liberty Lane Hospice at W.G. “Bill” Heffner VA Medical Center, Salisbury. <br><br>Born in China Grove on June 16, 1944, to Lucille Allison Alexander and Carl Setzer, he was educated in the Rowan County School District and graduated from Aggrey Memorial High School, Landis. <br><br>He was a former member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in China Grove. In 1963, he enlisted into the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He also previously worked in the Military Club System, Kemp Mills Music Warehouse, Dillards Distribution Center, Holiday Inn and the Salisbury Veteran Affairs Medical Center. In all of these jobs, Mr. Alexander held the position of owner, supervisor and/or manager. <br><br>On Feb. 4, 1967, he married the former Phyllis “Kitty” Gaines of Barstow, Calif. This union produced a daughter, Cynthia, and a son, Brian. They remained friends until her death in 1987. <br><br>Mr. Alexander was a 33 Degree Mason where he held several different positions as well as membership in the Order of Eastern Star, Royal Arch Chapter and Knights in Templar.<br><br> In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson Daniel Brayboy; brothers Leo and Leon Alexander, James Henry Allison, Roscoe Allison, Louis E. Alexander Sr.; and sisters Ethel Faye and Lula Mae Alexander.<br><br> Left to cherish his memory are sisters Elizabeth Watson of Salisbury and Joann Bratcher (Robert) of East Spencer, Corlis Phifer (Isaiah), Constance Alexander and Carolyn Alexander, all of Salisbury; one brother, Norman Alexander of Michigan; two daughters, Cynthia Alexander-Brayboy (Dannie) of Long Beach, Calif., and Shaneik LaShawn Hunter-Burns (Gerry) of Charlotte; one son, Brian Alexander of Represa, Calif.; nine grandchildren: Daniel Brayboy (Heaven), Airman First Class Samuel Brayboy, Jordan Elizabeth and Anthony Brayboy of Long Beach, Calif., Donterio R. Glaspy, Rakeem D. Glaspy, Keosha Hunter, Julethia Glaspy, all of Kannapolis, and Navy Firemen Endia Cannon of Great Lakes, Chicago, Ill.; seven great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
