Allison Fleet Gibbs Obituary

CAMDEN - Allison F. ‘Al’ Gibbs, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, Sunday, April 22, 2018. Born in Belfast, March 25, 1942, he was the son of John D. and Isabel M. Clements Gibbs of Brooks. Al spent his early years on the family farm in Brooks before moving to Pearl Street in Camden, where he resided the rest of his life. A graduate of Camden High School class of 1960, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was stationed in El Paso, TX. Al married Sheila Parrault in 1962, having two children, Rodney and Angela before divorcing in 1971. He was adept at most everything he tried. He loved music and played any instrument he picked up by ear. He often played piano or guitar with his brothers - a very talented group, playing in nursing homes or just getting together with friends and having a good time. He is fondly remembered by family friend Bea Grant as loving to play music, camping and hunting with the Nash family for years. Al worked hard, always having a project in the works, he was a talented machinist and mechanic. He worked for Maine Technical Industries in Rockport and R & R Engineering in Rockland where he assisted in the construction of the FMC smokestack, still visible today. Al spent the last 20 years of employment with the State of Maine Marine Patrol as the Chief Marine Mechanic retiring in 2009. Other than his parents, Al was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Nolan, Neal and his daughter Angela. He is survived by his girlfriend Caroline Staples of Camden, son Rodney and his wife Stephanie of Warren, grandchildren Ryan Gibbs and his wife Tina of West Gardiner, Tyler Gibbs of Biddeford, Whitney Brown and her husband Jared of Vinalhaven, Christopher Carpentier and his fiancée Samantha Bartlett of Union, Dalton Claus and her husband Chris of Hubert, NC; eight great-grandchildren; his brother Derol Gibbs and his friend Kathy of Frankfort; his sister Leona Dyer of Jupiter, FL; sister-in-law Billie Gibbs of Antelope, CA, as well as several nieces, nephews and many extended family. An informal time of visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 1st, 2018, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A private burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
