Colin Guy Morris Obituary

Colin Guy Morris was born in Singapore on October 8, 1940 to Julie and Joseph Morris. As the eldest of four children, Colin learned leadership and responsibility at an early age, developing the character he was known for in later life of generosity and putting others needs ahead of his own. Colin grew up quickly as was necessitated by the passing of his father when he was 22 years old. Filling the shoes of his father, Colin took responsibility for getting each of his siblings on their feet in the world, before he moved on with his own life and became a school teacher. Colin's young adult life was punctuated by fun times, tearing up the streets of Singapore on his Aermacchi motorcycle, with his eventual wife Lynette on the back, leaving sparks as the exhaust pipes touched the pavement. In 1970, he and Lynette trailblazed a path to Canada, taking a circuitous route through northern British Columbia. There could not be a more opposite experience going from the city-state of Singapore to the remote Native Indian reservation of Bella Bella. But as the stories were told, it was a character-building experience. Colin and Lynette eventually settled in the Greater Vancouver area in 1973, where they stayed for 43 years and raised 2 sons, Mark and Charles. Eventually, Colin reunited his family, sponsoring his mother and siblings to Canada where they all settled in Coquitlam, BC. Continuing with the bold decisions, while having 2 young children at home, Colin decided to change his career. So at the age of 33, he embarked on a totally new career path and became a Certified General Accountant. It was a designation that he attached to his name with pride. He became known as Colin G. Morris, CGA, and eventually opened his own practice, serving many clients over the 32 years of his career, helping them with financial, tax and sometimes even life advice. Outside of his practice and family, Colin had a passion for classical music, cars and golf. Although he worked long hours, he would always have classical music playing in the background and a golf ball and tee on his desk. He continued also to help others outside of work, supporting his favorite charitable causes: St. Vincent De Paul and the education of seminarians. In 2016, Colin and Lynette moved to Bellevue WA to be closer to their sons. They enjoyed time with their granddaughters, to whom Colin was known as Yaya. On November 11, 2018, Colin passed peacefully onto eternal life, surrounded by his family. A life well lived, Colin was known for his generosity, his willingness to put others needs ahead of his own, his love for his family, his kind smile and his ability to make connections to those around him. Until they meet again, he will be greatly missed by Lynette, Charles and Mark, his granddaughters Asha and Opal, his nephews and nieces, and by his siblings Adeline and Alan and their spouses.
