John Garrell Swoyer

John G. ”Red” Swoyer, 83, of Vancouver, WA, passed away on Nov. 11, 2018. He was the second of three children born in Walsenburg, CO to Henry A. Swoyer and Sylvia L. (Comyford) Swoyer on June 11, 1935. Red joined the Navy at 17 years old and served 3 years. He married Carol L. Manley on Feb. 17th, 1956. Red’s name was well known in the trucking industry. He was a truck bodyman for many years rebuilding wrecked trucks before retiring in 1994. Red was beloved by all who knew him. He had a big heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. Red is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Lee (Manley) Swoyer; his brother, Richard Swoyer; half-sisters, Ernestine (Lively) Slinker and Darline (Lively) Lewis; his five children, Linda Swoyer, John Swoyer, Jr., David Swoyer, Gary Swoyer, and Kathryn “Kate” Swoyer; 7 grandchildren and and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jesse Marie “Dorothy” (Swoyer) Freeman. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elk’s Lodge, 907 Grace Ave., Battle Ground, WA, Nov. 17th, at 2 p.m.
