Darrel Sidwell, 90, of Brownstown, died at 1:37 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Willowbrook Memory Care of Vandalia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown with Olen Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Griffith Cemetery, Brownstown with military rites by Brownstown VFW Post #9770 and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Darrel E. ‘Shorty’ Sidwell was born on Tuesday, November 27, 1934 in rural Brownstown to Vernie ‘Doc’ and Mildred Bertha (Harre) Sidwell. He married Zandra Lytle on May 10, 1968 and they enjoyed 49 years of marriage before divorcing. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Brownstown. He worked out of Operator’s Local 841. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by; his sons, Brad (Nikki) Sidwell, Brownstown, Greg (Debbie) Sidwell, Brownstown and Darrel E. (Michelle) Sidwell II, Cibolo, TX; daughter, Jill Wright (significant other, Maurice Wilson), Vandalia; Grandchildren, Carrie Sidwell, Brownstown, Ryan Sidwell (Ketra), Kinmundy, Sherry Sidwell, Brownstown, Breann Thomason, Salem, Josh (Tasha) Sidwell, Vandalia, and Jake Cook of Vandalia; step granddaughter, Amanda (Brian) Banister, Altamont; and

several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; his parents; step daughter, Lynn Ann Wright; brother, Paul Sidwell; grandson Jeffrey Allen Sidwell.
