James “Jim” Morgan Botkins, a beloved husband, father and Veteran passed away February 2, 2025, at the age of 83. Born July 16, 1941, in Bourbon County, Kentucky, Jim spent his final years in Versailles Kentucky, where he cherished a life filled with love and laughter.

Jim was a devoted husband to Linda Sue Phillips Botkins, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and joy.

Jim cherished his family above all else, including his son, Jimmy (Kay) Botkins, daughter, Kimberly (Irvin) Bullock, grandson, Joshua (Ashleigh) Wise, and great-granddaughter, Ava James Wise. Also, his dog Molly and his cats, Amos and Oscar. Jim was born to the late James Wallace Botkins and Eva Reynolds Botkins. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by daughter, Denise Botkins and his faithful furry companion, Cricket.

Jim was baptized and grounded in his faith at Clintonville Christian Church at a young age. He was an active member of his Clintonville community having played on the Bourbon County High School basketball team and showcase his musical talent as a saxophonist in the marching band. His achievements in 4-H earned him several state awards for showing livestock. Jim was still active with the Class of 1959 members spending time together on the phone and at reunions. A proud United States Army Veteran, Jim dedicated part of his life to serving his country. He had a fulfilling career beginning with his time at Dixie Cup, a route supervisor with Canteen, and later retiring from Ale-8 One, where he made lasting friendships.

Jim was a dedicated family man who found immense joy in spending time with his wife and children. His interests were diverse, ranging from raising a garden and woodworking, to fishing and hunting. He had a passion for landscaping and took great pride in tending to an elaborate Koi Pond, that was the centerpiece of his home. Jim enjoyed traveling, camping and boating, always seeking new adventures with his wife by his side.

Known for his quick wit and love for telling jokes, Jim brought laughter to the lives of those around him. He instilled strong values of hard work and dedication in his children, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Jim had a zest for life and loved to share laughter, often entertaining those around him with his favorite jokes. He was a passionate supporter of Kentucky basketball and football and enjoyed indulging in his favorite foods particularly fried fish and Ale-8 One, and his wife Linda’s home cooking. Jim will be remembered for his warmth, humor and unwavering love for his family. His favorite place in the world was undoubtedly home, surrounded by his loving wife in the memories they built together.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville, Kentucky.
