John Hugh Stamey Obituary

John Hugh Stamey, age 84, of Clarkesville, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025.


Born on February 15, 1940, in the Batesville Community, he was a son of the late David Edgar Stamey and Rosalie Parker Stamey. John was a 1957 graduate of North Habersham High School, who went on to retire from Habersham County Road Department as Road Superintendent. He was also a farmer, who enjoyed being outdoors, race cars, and collecting John Deere tractors. John was a member of Providence Baptist Church, and also attended Hollywood Baptist Church and Lighthouse Baptist Church.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jim Stamey and Mick Stamey.


Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Thelma Addis Stamey; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Stamey (Regina), Rick Stamey (Becky), Scott Stamey (Tina), Hugh Stamey, Jason Barrs (C.J.), Cody Barrs (Chassity), and Jesse Barrs (MaKensie); 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Stamey Grant; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Stamey (Mickie) and Bill Stamey (Nadine); numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.


Memorial services are 3 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire, with Dr. Don Samples and Rev. Donald Grizzle officiating.


The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the service hour on Sunday, at the funeral home.


A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
