Edith S. Abert

Edith S. "Totsy" Abert, 86, of Enfield, beloved wife of the late Ralph J. Abert, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 5, 1929, the daughter of the late Eric and Elizabeth Olson. Edith was born in Springfield, MA, raised in West Springfield, MA, and lived in Enfield for most of her life. She taught ceramics for over ten years and was employed at Hallmark for over five years. Edith was a longtime member of St. Martha Church and a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in West Springfield, MA. She loved playing cards, casino trips, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Mona Mastalisz and her husband John of Suffield, CT; two granddaughters, Brooke Keough and her husband Tony and Courtny Mastalisz; three great-grandchildren, Paige Keough, Brynn Keough, and Aidan DeVeno; a brother, Eric Olson of Feeding Hills, MA; a sister, Mona Piotrowski of Enfield, and special caretakers and companions, Eugene Piotrowski of Suffield, and Shirley LaFountaine of Enfield; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Ralph, she was predeceased by her son Ralph A. Abert and two sisters Shirley Stratton and Linda (Susie) Olson. Relatives and friends may join the family on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. A funeral procession will gather on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martha Church, 214 Brainard Road, Enfield, CT. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery. Memorial donations in Edith's memory may be made to St. Martha's School.
