Joel T. Liboff, of Caldwell, N.J, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. He was 80 years old. Visiting with the family will be at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell, on Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 from 5 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Prayer services and a celebration of his life will follow at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Born in Morristown, N.J., Mr. Liboff grew up in Parsippany and was a resident of Caldwell for more than 47 years. Mr. Liboff earned his master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. A veteran, he proudly served in the Army from October 31, 1961 to October 30, 1963. He was a member of Veterans for Peace, National Treasury Employees Union, Sierra Club and the American Legion. Mr. Liboff was employed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in Newark as an agent for 38 years before retiring in 1998. Known to his friends as “Books Liboff”, he was an avid reader, liked history, cryptoquotes and telling puns. He loved sports especially  baseball, and the Boston Red Sox were his favorite team. He also enjoyed spending time at the New Jersey shore. Joel and his wife, Sharon, were recently honored at their 50th wedding anniversary celebration by many family members and good friends. He adored attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities. Most importantly, he was devoted to his family and friends and loved by all who knew him. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Sharon (nee McGarry) Liboff; loving father of Robin A. Liboff and Holly L. Elrod and her husband, Drew, and cherished grandfather of Violet Elrod and Charlotte Elrod, and devoted son of the late Morris and Adele (nee Steck) Liboff.  He is also survived by many loving family and friends.
