Scotia- Edmund John Rohrmeier, 79, of Scotia, New York, passed away on January 22, 2025 after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Born on February 27, 1945, Edmund lived a life full of love, dedication, and community service.
A graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School (Class of 1963) and Siena College (Class of 1967) with a Bachelor’s in history, Edmund went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, through ROTC, 2 years in the US, and three years in Germany achieving the rank of Captain before his honorable discharge in 1972.
Edmund was a devoted community leader and volunteer. He served as president and coach of the Burnt Hills Girls Recreational Softball League for 20 years; coached girls and boys in recreational basketball, soccer, and baseball from T-ball through Babe Ruth. He also played on and managed the ‘Burnt Hills Coaches’ Men’s Softball Team for 22 years.
His dedication to faith and service was evident in his roles as a religious education teacher, Eucharistic minister, and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Immaculate Conception Church. Edmund also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In his professional life, Edmund found success as a real estate agent, eventually establishing his own brokerage, Ed Rohrmeier Realty, after working with companies like Prudential Manor Homes and ReMax. He sold advertisements for the Glenville Weekly Newspaper and worked with Martin, Harding & Mazzotti in later years.
Edmund had many passions, including writing poetry and songs, playing the guitar, skiing, and building projects around the house. He was an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for gardening, He loved to participate in sports, whether it was softball, basketball, or golf; camping, canoeing, or walking the dogs. He was an avid supporter and spectator of his children and grandchildren’s sports and performances.
Edmund is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Rohrmeier, his siblings, Madeline (Richard Bievenue), Johanna (late John Nally), as well as his five children: Heidi (Rick McCane), Jennifer (Erich Spikereit), Katrina (Dan Lanka), Melanie (Jeff Hayes), and Eddy Rohrmeier (Amanda Litwin). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Jackson, Joseph, Samuel, Matthew, Nicholas, Cody, Sadie, Maisie, and Grady.
Edmund’s kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and community will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Glenville Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville, New York.
Interment will follow immediately at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
