Kenneth Eugene Unger, 85, Gettysburg, PA died Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at SpiriTrust in Gettysburg, PA.

He was born April 27, 1939 in Hanover, PA the son of the late George E. and Mildred (Haines) Unger.

He was a graduate of Eichelberger High School in Hanover, PA, York Junior College in York, PA and Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. He worked as a surveyor and a butcher, then spent twenty years before retiring as Building Supervisor at St. James Lutheran Church where he was a member since 1969. He sang in the Adult choir, taught Sunday school, served on council and was a Stephen Minister there.

He loved gardening, reading, camping, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, traveling to Pittsburgh and Tallahassee for band, orchestra, and choral concerts and recitals.

Ken is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria, son Michael (Lisa) Unger of Bethel Park, PA, daughter Melissa (Karl) Barton of Tallahassee, FL five grandchildren; Rachel Unger, Jonathan Unger, Stephen (Crystal) Barton, Sarah Barton, and Isabel Barton. He is also survived by a sister, Elaine Weaver of New Oxford, PA, a brother, Barry (Lori) Unger of Hanover, PA, and a sister-in-law Linda Unger of York, PA. He was predeceased by a brother David Unger.


A Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Andrew Geib and Rev. Libby Baker-Mikesell. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
