Bonnie Lou Krampota Rockford, Illinois Obituary

Bonnie Lou Krampota

Bonnie Lou Krampota, (née Magnuson), 72, passed away peacefully at Swedish American Hospital, November 11, 2018 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. The third child of Clarence and Hilma Magnuson -- Dennis, Decorah, IA; the late Donald, Rockford; and Connie, Rockford -- Bonnie lived her entire life in Rockford. She attended Turner School, Lincoln Junior High School, and graduated from Rockford East High School. For two years, she studied at Indiana State University (Terre Haute) and later earned an Associates Degree from Rock Valley College. She began her work at the US Post Office, being one of the first women mail carriers. Later she was employed as office support staff, and subsequently at Wight School as a Title 1 reading assistant. Her final work was as a member of the lunch serving staff at Rolling Green School. Despite significant health struggles, Bonnie had a tenacious love of life that included her family and friends and all things Swedish. Her husband, of 40 years, David, daughters Elizabeth, Kristina, Karey, and grandson Davey were the light of her life. As a lifeguard and avid swimmer in her youth, her interests included competing in Rockford city swim meets, camping, canoeing, and visiting with friends old and new. She was a lifelong Girl Scout and very involved in scouting activities and leadership for over 50 years. Confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church, she was a lifelong, active member. Bonnie is survived by her husband David Krampota -- a loving caregiver extraordinaire; her daughters Elizabeth, Kristina, and Karey; grandson Davey; brother Dennis Magnuson (Decorah, IA); his children Derek Magnuson and Kisa (Magnuson) Shapiro (both from Tampa, FL); sister-in-law Charlotte Magnuson; her son Alan (both from Mendota, VA); and sister Connie Magnuson (Winnebago, IL). She was predeceased by her beloved Swedish paternal grandparents Gust and Ida Magnuson; her parents Clarence and Hilma Magnuson; and brother Donald Magnuson. A celebration of Bonnie’s life will include a visitation from 4-8 PM this Friday, November 16; a preservice visitation on Saturday, November 17 from 9-10 AM; and the funeral service that day at 10 AM at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 South Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois.
