Enrique “Henry” Salinas, age 81 of Skidmore, Texas went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025. He was born September 6th, 1943 in Skidmore, Texas. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Matias and Jesusa Salinas as well as a brother Rey Salinas.
Henry was actively involved in school activities as a boy, excelling as an outstanding athlete in various sports, particularly football and baseball. He also participated in Future Farmers of America activities. After high school, Henry married Olga Cavazos from Tynan, Texas, and they began their life together. Henry was a loving husband to Olga and they were married for 59 years.
Shortly after being married, Henry was drafted into the armed forces. He proudly served two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After his military service, he and his young family lived briefly in Fort Worth while he worked for General Dynamics. Later, Henry took a job with DuPont in Ingleside, Texas, enabling Henry and Olga to return to Skidmore to raise their growing family.
Henry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and loving grandfather, whose presence brought joy and strength to his family. He was a man of great responsibility, always ensuring that his loved ones were well cared for and supported. With a strong work ethic and unwavering dedication, he worked diligently to provide for his family, creating a warm, nurturing home filled with boundless love and abundant laughter.
Henry and Olga had three children, all of whom attended Skidmore-Tynan Independent School District. Henry was highly involved in his children's activities; he coached their youth sports teams and served on the STISD Board of Trustees, becoming the first Hispanic to hold a position on the board. Henry retired from DuPont in 2003, and his retired life revolved around his children and grandchildren. He loved his Houston Astros Baseball and was an avid fan!
Henry is survived by his wife, Olga Salinas, and their children: John Salinas and his wife, Rachel, of Taft, Texas. They have two sons, Tyler and Conner. Chrissy Trevino and her husband Tony from San Antonio, Texas with their two children, Maddie and Troy. Wendy Sanchez, and her husband, Jimmy, of McKinney, Texas, and their two children, Anthony and Gabby. Henry's brother, Rudy (Anna Marie) Salinas, from Skidmore, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. on the same day. Interment will take place afterward at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas.
The pallbearers are Tyler Salinas, Conner Salinas, Troy Trevino, Tony Trevino, Anthony Sanchez, and Jimmy Sanchez.
