Suzanna James

Ms. Suzanna James, affectionately known as “Suzy Q” and “GiGi,” peacefully transitioned from this life

on January 22, 2025, while residing at Rice Estates. She was born on November 9, 1938, to the late Sarah

and John Robinson.

Suzanna was a woman whose presence could never be summed up in just a few words. If you were to

ask anyone about her, you’d better pull up a chair because the stories of her love, strength, and wisdom

could go on forever. She touched countless lives in so many ways, always embracing life with open arms

and an open heart. She lived fully, loved deeply, and left an unforgettable impact on everyone who

knew her.

A devoted and selfless mother, Suzanna raised ten children and also nurtured several of her

grandchildren. She provided for her family with unwavering dedication, ensuring they always had what

they needed. She wore many hats—without formal titles, she was a nurse when they were sick, a

teacher when they needed guidance, and a provider in every sense of the word. She was the foundation

of her family, their “Big Momma,” a woman of wisdom, grace, and resilience.

Suzanna was also known for her incredible cooking, with her biscuits becoming legendary in the hearts

(and stomachs) of those who were fortunate enough to experience them. She was not just a mother but

a friend, a confidante, and a guiding light to many. Her kindness and warmth extended far beyond her

family, touching the lives of friends, neighbors, and all who crossed her path.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and John Robinson; her beloved daughter, Shelia

James; her brother, John Charles James; and her grandsons, Tyson James and Shalik James.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Ethel S. James, Elaine James, Lawrence James,

Anthony (Khadijah) James, Craig James, William (Janelle) James, M. Shinda James, Dia James, and

Cynthia (Jeffrey) Meadows. Also holding her memory dear are her special granddaughter, Sabrina (Greg)

Peterson, and a special son-in-law, Francis Alfonson, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces,

nephews, other close relatives, and friends.

Though Suzanna is no longer physically with us, her spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts

of all who loved her. She was loved by many and will be missed by even more, but her love, wisdom, and

warmth will remain an everlasting presence in the lives she touched.
