John Forace Bradford Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, in Houston, TX, at the age of 78. Born on September 16, 1946, in Cowan, TN, to the late George and Elsie Bradford, John was a man of great strength, both in character and in the love he shared with his family and friends.
John's life was marked by a deep commitment to his country and his community. He proudly served in the United States Army, a chapter in his life that shaped much of his ethos and work ethic. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a skilled millwright, a profession that benefited from his remarkable talent for building and metal fabrication. His hands were rarely still, as he was always constructing or fixing something, leaving a legacy of his craftsmanship in the homes and hearts of those he touched.
The love story between John and his late wife, Sherry Bradford, spanned three decades, filled with shared dreams and mutual respect. Together they raised a loving family, including their son, John Forace Bradford Jr. and Ashley Bennett, and daughters Amanda and Matt Daly, and Brandi Miller-Blakes and Marlon. The family was struck by tragedy with the untimely passing of their daughter Patsy Bradford, but John's resilience and love helped guide them through the difficult times.
John was the proud patriarch of a large family, which included his cherished grandchildren Sean and Tara Freeman, Casey and Joseph Cross, Madisyn Whitton, Zachariah Whitton, Malaki Blakes, Micah Blakes, Mason Daly, and Mia Blakes. His great-grandchildren Koy Cavazos, Ryker Cavazos, Ryder Kohler, and Beaux Cross brought him immense joy and laughter, often filling his home with the exuberant noise and happiness that only young children can bring.
He is survived by his brother Charlie Bradford and sisters Dorothy Bradford and Buella Bradford, who will miss him dearly. The family tree branches that John leaves behind are a testament to the life he built and the love he fostered. He now reunites with his brothers Bob, Sonny, Ted, Roy, and Lonnie Bradford, who preceded him in death.
John was a man who lived life to the fullest, embracing his passions with vigor. He was renowned for his ability to build exceptional BBQ pits and was a familiar face at local BBQ Cook-Offs, where he not only competed but also cultivated lasting friendships. His love for good food, good company, and the joy of competition was evident to all who knew him.
Beyond his public hobbies, John was a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life. He found great satisfaction in hanging out and sharing a drink with friends, where laughter and stories were always in abundance. His presence was a source of stability and comfort, and his sense of humor could light up any room.
In his life's journey, John Forace Bradford Sr. taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy that can be found in everyday moments. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the indelible mark he left on our lives. His legacy will continue to live on through the stories shared, the projects completed, and the lives he touched.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM Thursday, February 13, 2025 where he will be laid to rest with his wife at Houston National Cemetery.
