Wilma Ann Lumsdon, 93, of Ottumwa died November 12, 2018 at her home. She was born January 20, 1925 in Churdan, IA to Roy and Clara Belle Slyter Murphy. She married Richard “Dick” Lumsdon March 28, 1948 and he preceded her in death November 13, 2005. Wilma graduated from Cooper Consolidated High School in 1945 and from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines in 1948. She worked as a nurse for one year in Fairfield before joining the OB Dept. at St. Joseph Hospital where she worked from 1949-1965. After that time, she worked in Dr. Emanuel’s office. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as the organist and on the deacon board. She was a member of American Business Women Association and a volunteer for the American Red Cross as well as Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties. Wilma thoroughly enjoyed sewing, quilting and playing cards (stretching the rules). Surviving are two daughters, Sue (Doug) Blunt of Weston, MO and Elizabeth “Liz” Stufflebeem of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Rachel (Andrew) Majerus of Des Moines and Joseph Stufflebeem of Ottumwa; four great grandchildren, Layla, Evelyn, Sebastian and Gideon Majerus. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; an infant great granddaughter, Celia Majerus; four brothers, De Roy Murphy, Jay Murphy, Richard Murphy and John Murphy; three sisters, Floy Brown, Grace Johnson and Bessie Murphy. Funeral services will 10:30 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jane Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the American Red Cross. The family would like to thank all that helped take care of Wilma, especially Ruth Myers.
