SAMUEL B GRUBER

Samuel B Gruber passed away on November 11, 2018. Sam was a 2009 Governor’s Scholar Graduate from Larry A. Ryle High School in Union, KY and a Magna Cum Laude Graduate from the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Sam was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine’s Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics (MIMG) Program. Having completed the academic requirements, Sam was working on his dissertation at the time of his death. He volunteered around the UK Community, supporting the efforts of his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega. Sam’s powerful intellect fueled his curiosity about the world in which we live. Sam had a wide range of personal interests. His skateboard was a constant companion and provided multiple broken bones, cuts and bruises. He loved music (from Beethoven’s Midnight Sonata to August Burns Red and Warp Tour), movies (The Big Lebowski, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Cinema Paradiso) and live theater. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Sam lived, laughed and loved with sincerity. His smile could light up a room. He met and fell in love with Courtney and her young daughter, Nova, with whom he was planning a future. His parents, Doug and Jan Gruber, brother Max, extended family and friends grieve Sam’s passing and are working to celebrate the life he so richly lived.
