Roger was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served from October 3, 1963 to October 3, 1967. He is also a retired Nassau County police officer he’s served on the police force from June 20, 1969 to March 19, 1992.
To know Roger was to love him instantly he had the most amazing personality with his joke telling and his love for dancing. Anytime he would get out on the Dance floor he would have all the ladies dancing around him and he had the best dance moves. his personality would light up a room, and you were instantly drawn to him, and you are bound to have a good time and hear an abundance of jokes.
Roger was a loving and devoted husband to Jane Orpheus for 52 years. And their love for one another was evident to anyone who saw them. Everything they did in their life was done as a team, and they truly had one a of a kind relationship.
As a dad, we couldn’t have asked for anyone better he would tell us jokes all the time, some that would get us in trouble, and he was always doing things with us like going in the pool, throwing a baseball and taking us on, sometimes long scenic route, trips down to Florida to visit our grandparents. He was always there when we needed him in good times and bad no matter what he was doing.
Roger’s (aka Pop Pop) love for his grand children goes uncontested. Each of his Grand children hold special memories of him dear to their hearts, but as we all know, he was a jokester and loved to play Pirates with the kids. He was the captain of the Black Pearl, and he had those kids walk the plank multiple times a day. Then there was the enchanted forest,a sump behind the house, that he would tell the kids that there were wolverines, and their eyes would light up at night and stay away, or the Wolverines will get them. The grandkids had so much fun with him, and always look forward to a stories, jokes, and dancing moves.
Roger loved to golf, especially the 19th hole, go to Jets games, even if they were in Foxborough, with the Foxborough five and poker nights with his friends. He also had a love for cars. He had a 64 Chevelle the longest and restored that car for many years. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do, he was a jack of all trades, from working on the house, restoring cars, coaching baseball, just to name a few.
He made sure his wife and kids had an extremely good life and we will never forget all the memories he has left us. Roger (aka Dad and Pop Pop) you will be truly missed, but never forgotten. We all love you and will keep your memory alive.
