Roger Dean Jones of Ames, Iowa passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born on September 21st,1938 in Sheffield, Iowa, Roger was the son of George and Clara (Scott) Jones. He graduated from Ames High School in 1958. Roger and his brother George (Babe)Jones founded Jones Brothers Concrete and spent many years working with contractors on residential and commercial projects. A lifetime resident of Ames, Iowa, Roger and his brother poured the original Ames public swimming pool and assisted in many other projects. Roger was a member of the Ames Home Builders Association for many years and enjoyed working with construction companies and local businesses.

Roger was united in marriage to Dorothy Blair, of Swea City Iowa, on June 17th,1960 at the Open Bible Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. Starting their life together in Ames, Iowa, Roger and Dorothy joined the congregation of First Assembly of God. Roger was a very hard worker and when the time came for their little church to grow, used his passion and skill, helping build the new location on 13th Street (now LifePointe), still open and active today. Roger had a love and dedication to God and his church, spending many years serving on the church board and most notably, leading song services.

In addition to his passion for work and Christian fellowship, Roger along with Dorothy, were able to travel to several places, including New York, Hawaii, and most notably, Walt Disney World. Roger also loved baseball, football and basketball and was very proud to be part of the 1957 undefeated Ames High Little Cyclones football team. Roger grew up a New York Yankees fan and was loyal to the Iowa State Cyclones. He also enjoyed cheering for Notre Dame and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Roger is survived by his wife Dorothy, his son Rodney (Joany) Jones of Maxwell, his daughter Kimberly (Blake)Pinneke of Ankeny; Grandchildren; Ashley Jones; Amanda (Bryan) Laraia, Jordan Jones, Katie (Shannon) Jones, Christian (Melissa)Pinneke, Anna Jones, Janaee Jones, Haley Jones, seven Great-Children, a sister Joyce Hatfield, two sisters-in-law; Jayanne Jones and Joyce Jones.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

A visitation will be held on Thursday January 23rd, 2025, from 5-7 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday January 24th, 2025, at 11 AM. Both will be held at LifePointe Church, 409 13th Street, Ames, Iowa. Please join the family after to share memories from Roger’s life.
