Elizabeth "Sue" Scott Obituary

Elizabeth “Sue” (Morrison) Scott, age 92, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025. She was born on July 10, 1932, in Peotone, IL, the daughter of Gilbert and Ruth (Zimmerly) Morrison. On April 13, 1957, she married Richard Scott, who preceded her in death on April 25, 2015, after 58 wonderful years of marriage.

Sue is survived by her brother, George (Loma) Morrison; a son, not by blood but by love, Karl White (John Knowles); many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly; and her beloved dachshunds, Sparkles and Ace. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Nancy L. (Morrison) Janssen; and her brother, John “Thomas” Morrison.

Sue graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and the Delta Zeta Alumni Group through EIU. Sue taught art and music for two years in Hinsdale before moving to Charleston, where she dedicated over 40 years to teaching second grade at Washington Elementary School in Mattoon, IL, before retiring.

Sue was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston, IL, where she served several terms as a Deacon. She had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with friends, especially going out to eat and participating in various craft projects. A talented seamstress, she created many beautiful patchwork dresses with whatever fabric she had on hand. Sue also had a deep love for music, playing the piano and singing in numerous choruses throughout the years. She was a devoted animal lover and mother to many dogs, often taking in needy dogs and showering them with love and care.

A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Mound Cemetery in Charleston, IL, with Pastor Mary Wright officiating. A lunch will be provided at noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston for family and friends following the service.
