Joan H. (Flammia) Severino, 91, of Peabody and formerly of Revere, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Sonny Severino with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Joan was born on May 29, 1933, in Boston, MA and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Cullinan) Flammia. Soon after graduating from high school, she began working as a waitress in the North End. She later continued her waitressing career in Revere and was known for her strong work ethic, which she in turn instilled in her family. In addition to serving food in restaurants, she also was an excellent cook and would love to feed her family and friends at her table. Some of her specialties were her eggplant parmigiana and her roasted potatoes.
Joan was a woman of deep faith who was very active in the Catholic Church. When she wasnt able to attend Mass, she always watched the Mass on television. She had a great devotion to Saint Anthony and would also pray the rosary every day.
Her love of God was expressed in her love for her family. She was the glue that kept everyone together, and she always taught them the importance of hard work, education, and faith in God. She was very much a caregiver who helped take care of her grandchildren in her later years. She was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She treated everyone equally and showed love and support for all who were blessed to be part of her family and her network of friends. Spending time with her family was the highlight of her life. Whether it was travelling to Florida with Sonny in years past or holding one of her great grandchildren in more recent years, she found great joy and comfort in being with loved ones.
Joan is survived by her children Steven Severino and his wife Madelyn, Karen Cipriani and her husband John, and Bobby Severino and his wife Melissa, all of Peabody; her grandchildren Steven Severino and his wife Danielle of Everett, Rosalee Moran and her husband Brendon of Peabody, Christina Beliveau and her husband Ryan of Georgetown, Michael Cipriani and his wife Anna of Lynn, and Gia Severino of Peabody; her great-grandchildren Mason, Cameron, Landon and Francesca; her sisters Carol Cucchiara of Chelmsford and Barbara Meola of NH; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Anthony Flammia and her sister Anna Mayo.
Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 9:00AM to 10:30AM. Her Funeral Mass will then be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody at 11:00AM followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
