Diane Newman Obituary

Beautiful and loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Diane was born on August 3, 1947, in Payson, Utah, to her wonderful parents, Rex Eugene Nielsen and Margaret Lila Hatch. She was the third daughter of four girls. She grew up on a dairy farm in Palmyra, Utah, where she learned to work hard and play hard, enjoying the farm animals and many wonderful experiences. She attended Park Elementary School and Spanish Fork Junior High. When she was 15, her family moved to American Fork, where she attended American Fork High School, graduating in 1965. She made many friends there and enjoyed playing on the volleyball and basketball teams, as well as being in the pep club. Diane met her lifelong sweetheart, Rex Newman, between her junior and senior year of high school when she was working at Corlesson's Caf in Pleasant Grove. They married on August 6, 1965, in American Fork. While living in American Fork, Rex and Diane welcomed their first daughter, Tiffany. A few years later, they moved to Pleasant Grove, where they welcomed two more children-Kody and Kelli-and continued to raise their family there. After graduating from beauty school, Diane worked at Erma's Beauty Salon, Robert's Beauty Shop, and then ran her own beauty business at home for 25 years. She worked for Alpine School District as a special-needs bus driver for 26 years and loved the children very much. The family had many years of camping, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. They were members of the Big Horn Ranch in Nebo, where they camped many seasons. Diane was highly involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives. They were very precious to her. She attended dance recitals, baseball games, cheer competitions, graduations, and many other activities. Most of all, she loved her family. Singing since she was a little girl, Diane continued to sing throughout her life. Her mother and three sisters started singing for sacrament meetings, funerals, and programs of all kinds. Loving life to its fullest, Diane had many hobbies. She loved art, having a garden, reading, puzzles, decorating her home, raising puppies, seeing new places, mountains, BYU football, and the NFL. She also loved horses and was a member of several riding clubs. She and Rex had a passion for racehorses. She loved to socialize with people through church, book club, and a good competitive game of cards. She wouldn't leave the house without looking her best, with stunning makeup and her hair done. She loved meeting her schoolmates, church friends, and her sisters once a month for lunch. Being a very active key member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had an unwavering and great love for the Lord. She had a very strong testimony to share and served in many church callings, loving them all, whether it was as a primary teacher or in a presidency. She loved the temple and her ward family and was committed to serving them. She was also greatly served by them. Community and missionary work were a huge aspect of her life, and she greatly contributed to both. She was always there for her friends and family, no matter the circumstances, and she never gave up on those in need. Diane loved her sweet husband Rex, who always put her on a pedestal. He was so kind to her and took care of her to the end. He always supported her in all she wanted to do. She loved and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild with all of her heart and was so grateful for all the time she was able to spend with them. She enjoyed her extended family and many wonderful lifelong and new friends. Grateful for Applegate Hospice, Diane and her family wish to thank them for their compassionate care of Diane during her final days: Thank you, Jessica, Jeremie, Jewels, Julie, Christina, and Dahlia.
