It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bonnie Ruth Sherrer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on January 2, 2025, at St. Vincent East in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on March 30, 1936, in Blount County, Alabama, Bonnie lived a full and vibrant life, spanning 88 years, filled with love, laughter, and kindness.
Bonnie was the cherished daughter of Herman and Lois Allen, who welcomed her into the world with open arms. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her brother Jim Allen, her sisters Betty Ruth Scott and Wadie B. Edwards, her son-in-law Al Palmer. Bonnie's spirit, however, will continue to live on through her family and friends who adored her immensely.
Bonnie's family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Joe Sherrer of 73 years, her son, Michael Joe Sherrer (Tracy); her daughters, Vicki Hayes (Marty) and Bonnie Jo Palmer; and her beloved sisters, Maxine Cooper, Pauline Hawkins, and Shirley Mason. Bonnie was a proud grandmother to Tyler Hayes (Katie), Devin Sherrer, Hayden Hayes (Jessica), Kaley Hollingsworth (Caleb), and Alex Sherrer. She delighted in her great-grandchildren, Audri Hayes, Peyton Hayes, and Hallie Jo Hayes, who brought her endless joy.
For over 30 years, Bonnie worked at the Tonka Store in Cleveland, where she became a familiar and welcoming presence in the community. Known for her huge personality and her ability to never meet a stranger, Bonnie made friends wherever she went. Her warmth and exuberance touched the lives of many, and she was known for her love of socializing, always engaging in heartfelt conversations and making everyone feel special.
Bonnie had a variety of interests that brought her happiness. She loved spending time outdoors, whether it was camping by the river, enjoying the beach, or bird watching. She had a particular fondness for flowers and was frequently seen shopping for purses and exploring thrift stores. Her zest for life was infectious, and her love for her family and nature was evident in everything she did.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday January 7, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Her funeral service will be held on January 7, 2025, at 12:00 pm at the Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Sherrer officiating, with burial to follow in Mt. Joy Cemetery in Cleveland, Alabama. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate Bonnie's life and share their memories, and honor the remarkable woman she was.
Bonnie Ruth Sherrer will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and joy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the memories we cherish and the lives she so positively impacted.
