Beverly A. (Magenheimer) Bartel Obituary

I, Beverly Ann Magenheimer Bartel, passed beyond your sight, but not your love, on December 31,2024 and continue in my eternal motion of livingness. I began my earth segment of livingness on earth through birth in 1935.  Clarence and Pearl Magenheimer parented my conception, birth and childhood.  I was born in Haubstadt. Indiana, the third child in our family after sister Betty, and brother Robert.

Betty and Robert were much older.  Betty 12 years older, and Bob 10 years older.  I grew up on a farm in the sparsely populated community of Haupstadt, Indiana.  Religious traditions between Protestants and Roman Catholics were barriers to friendships in those days.  Therefore, reading and having a few dolls were my companions of soul.

I enjoyed going to school, not only for the socialization, but because I loved to learn, and always tried my best in my classes.  After graduation from high school, I attended North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, graduating in 1957.  To practice my profession, I packed a large trunk and took the train to San Bernadino, California to be a teacher.  After a year of teaching, I decided the California school system at that time was not a good fit for me and I returned to Naperville to continue my teaching career.

As a result of my returning to Naperville, I got to know Lowell Bartel better than when we first met in college. We were married in August of 1959.  Lowell was in his final year of seminary, so we shared our first year in student housing, with student centered social lives.  After he graduated, we moved to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin where Lowell began his first pastoral appointment. Two sons were born to us in those first years. David and Eric brought joy and blessing to our lives.

Enduring the cold and long winters, I managed much happiness in various cities of Wisconsin.  I was able to put my teaching career on hold and delighted in enabling our sons to thrive and mature.  I did practice my career again once the boys were in school.  I filled my years with many good experiences and shared 65 years of partnership with Lowell.

My parents, my brother Robert, and my sister Betty preceded me in leaving this earth.  Lowell, and our sons David, and his partner Kathy; Eric and his partner Kari, continue their living, along with our grandchildren, Marc, Eliana, Connor, Sydney, and Blaine and his partner Amber.

This life on earth was a good experience with so much joy and satisfaction. I do wish my final years had not been so much of a challenge.  My illness prevented us from fully experiencing life together.  However, in that challenging span of time, I looked more deeply into life, past the body and brain that no longer offered me complete function.  I fought the good fight, and found love and happiness in ways I had not imagined. Thank you for being part of my life and happiness!

A service of Honor and Gratitude will be held at a later date.
