MILLINOCKET – Barbara A. McLean, 70, passed away on December 13, 2024, in Millinocket. She was born in Lincoln on October 9, 1954, the daughter of John and Berdina (Oakes) Boutaugh. Millinocket was her home from beginning to end, except for 16 years in Alaska from 1978 to 1994.
Barbara (Barb/Babs) cherished her family and friends, valuing the quality time spent with them, which was always filled with her infectious laughter, humour and beautiful smile. She expressed her affection through acts of kindness and generosity, often sharing her love through gifts from her hobbies of knitting, crocheting, quilting, cooking, and baking. She made her friends and her children and family friends feel welcome, loved, and exceptional in every way.
Along with her husband, when not doting on their beloved pets, she was a lover of nature; where they spent many hours at the lake, in the car or on the Harley, enjoying the open roads and beautiful scenery
She imparted many valuable lessons about life, unconditional love, and the power of forgiveness. Notably, she had a remarkable ability to appreciate life's simple pleasures and find joy even in the most challenging times.
Barbara believed that laughter was the best remedy and encouraged all who knew her to embrace life's messiness and to laugh even during the hardest moments.
Barbara is survived by her son, Dana (Missy) Preston of Millinocket, and grandchildren Landon, Ashley, Lacey, and Parker; her daughter, Jennifer (Aaron) Curtis of Australia, along with grandchildren Annaliese, Micayla, Eli, Ruby, and Vera; and her two sisters, Rowena (Dodo) Mazak of Florida and Sharon (Greg) Tanous of East Millinocket. She also leaves behind many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family is relieved that she is now at peace and pain-free but will deeply miss her.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert (Spook) McLean Jr., who, due to her unwavering devotion and care, allowed the two to enjoy many more years together than expected, and siblings Benjamin, John (Jack), Vinal, Michael (Mikey), and Donna.
