Thomas McGuire

Tommy as he was known was born in the Gorbals, Glasgow Scotland to Thomas and Frances McGuire of Meenlaragh, County Donegal, Ireland. His early years were spent with his cousin John Bán in Magheraroarty, Donegal. After finishing school Tommy entered an apprenticeship in refrigeration at Sterns Brewery. This led him to the high seas as a Merchant Marine traveling all around the world. It was during a port of call in San Francisco that Tommy reconnected with Micheal “Doc” McFadden a longtime family friend. In 1959 after finishing up his merchant service he was back in San Francisco with “Doc” McFadden sponsoring Tommy and he quickly found work as a Stationary Engineer at the Emporium. He was a Local 39 member for over 35 years. After an introduction from Fr. Mohr in 1960 Tommy met the love of his life Alexandrina - Sandra. They would soon be married and have two sons and move to the Sunshine Gardens section of SSF. Tommy was a devout Catholic and was a kind and happy man. Throughout his life he was a big soccer fan especially the Glasgow Celtic. He was also a big fan of boxing and enjoyed going dancing with friends at the 23 Club in Brisbane. He enjoyed watching all of his grandson’s play their sports and was very proud of them. Tommy was predeceased by his Parents and siblings Michael, Eddie, Mary and Bridie and is survived by his brother John. Tommy leaves behind his wife Sandra, son’s Tom (Leslie) and Chris (Yolanda), five grandson’s Conor , Ryan (Elena), Ian, Kyle and Tyler & a great grandson on the way March 25’. He will be missed dearly. We would like to thank Bhing, Christine & Sheila for their compassionate care. Per Tommy ’s wishes he didn’t want any services, so in his memory light a candle and say a little prayer for this rare man. Until we meet again.
