Carolyn Ann Smith, 69, of Washington, DC, passed away on December 13, 2024 at INOVA Mt. Vernon hospital in Alexandria, VA.

Carolyn was born in Washington, DC to Juanita Smith and Milton Smith on August 19, 1955. She attended DC Public Schools and graduated from Margaret Murray High School in 1973.

She worked for the District of Columbia Police Department as a Criminal Record Examiner for 25 years. Prior to working for DCPD, she worked for the DC public school main office in downtown DC. She also dipped her feet into other part time professions including, leasing, hotel auditor, post office mail processor, and the list goes on. She truly enjoyed staying busy with work, she wasn’t the type of person to just sit around.

Carolyn is survived by her children Erinn Smith and Carolyn Vaughan, grandchildren Rashae Smith, Emoni Seaberry, Artrell Smith, Joshua Smith, Jacob Smith, Noah Vaughan, Xavia Vaughan and great-grandchildren, Amiyah Seaberry and Jaseena Barett-Smith, Son in Law Jeffrey Vaughan and a host of close friends and colleagues.

The family of Carolyn wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Marion Cole and the nurses at the INOVA Schar Cancer Institute and to the nursing and physical therapy team at the George Washington House Rehabilitation Center for caring and supporting Carolyn.

The family of Carolyn would also like to extend our gratitude to the DCPD Records Division for their compassion and support for Carolyn during her time away. The agency genuinely valued Carolyn’s work ethic and her as a person, and the family can see why she truly enjoyed working for the DCPD Records Division.

Carolyn’s final arrangement wishes were to be cremated. The cremation will take place at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA.
