Funeral services for John Perry "Coach" Moore Jr, of Centreville, MS, who passed away on December 13, 2024, at our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA, will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Wilkinson County High School in Woodville, MS, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. LeReginald Jones officiating under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation services will be held on Saturday, from 10:00 A.M. until the service time at Wilkinson High School County Gym. John Perry (Coach) Moore, Jr., a beloved educator, coach, and community leader, passed away suddenly on December 13, 2024, at the age of 70. A pillar of Wilkinson County, MS, John dedicated over 30 years to teaching, coaching, and mentoring countless students while serving as a teacher, coach, bus driver, and athletic director at William Winans Attendance Center (WWAC) and Wilkinson County High School (WCHS).

Born on September 5, 1954, in Monroe County, MS, to John Perry Moore, Sr. and Elementhal Moore, John excelled in academics and athletics, graduating from Okolona High School in 1972. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education from Jackson State University.

In 1989, John became the first African American Alderman of Centreville, MS, serving faithfully for over three decades. He was a dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, and actively contributed to numerous community organizations.

John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Denise Boatner Moore; children, Tachaka Greene, Monique (Shamiah) Arbuthnot, and John P. (Diamond) Moore III; and grandchildren, Caden, Cambren, John P. Moore IV, and soon-to-be-born Asche Moore. His memory will live on through his siblings: Dorthy Abernathy of Fort Wayne, IN, Katie Moore of Gambrills, MD, and Oscar Moore of Okolona, MS. He also leaves behind siblings, extended family, and countless friends, former students, and players who will forever cherish his memory.

John Perry Moore, Jr.'s legacy of leadership, service, and compassion will live on in the lives he touched during his remarkable life.
