Phillip George Bennett Obituary

Phillip George Bennett, a loving husband, dedicated father, cherished brother, and doting grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the age of 79. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Phil grew up in nearby Brooklyn Park before making Linthicum Heights his home for the last 51 years. He and his beloved wife, Vickie, embraced the warmth of Florida's Punta Gorda as their seasonal snowbird retreat since 2009.

Phil’s legacy is marked by his devotion to family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vickie Bennett, their children, Brandon Bennett and his wife Karen and Alicia Wilkerson and her husband Dave, and his grandchildren, Boomer and Kaylyn, who brought endless joy to his life. In addition, he leaves behind his brothers, David and Jim Lambert, Bill Bennett, Steve Bennett, and his sister, Judy Thompson. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Ruby Bennett, his brothers, Terry and Sam Bennett, and his grandson, Dustin Hewes.

With a dedicated work ethic, Phil served his country through a 31-year career at the Department of Defense, specifically at NSA, where he retired as a computer programmer in 1994. His service extended to the nation through the U.S. Army Reserves, in which he served honorably from 1966 to 1972 during the Vietnam War era.

Beyond work, Phil was a man of varied interests. A proud member of the Parrot Head Club in Punta Gorda, he enjoyed the camaraderie and shared his love for early 1960s classic rock music, especially John Prine.  He was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace in hunting, fishing, and bird watching on trails like the C&O Canal and Down's Park alongside his brother Jim and he possessed a remarkable sense of humor that brought laughter to all around him.

Phil's life will be celebrated with an afternoon visitation at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
