Lois Virginia Killian Obituary

Lois Virginia Killian, 91, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Friday, December 13, 2024, at HOLI Senior LIving in Hillsboro.

Private Cremation Rites, Hoyt Crematory, Forest Grove, Oregon.

Lois Virginia Killian was born November 17, 1933 in Dalkena, Washington to William (Shorty) and Loretta (Grace) Stevens. She was the 6th of 10 children born to the Stevens family.

She was involved in many clubs during high school and also played on the girls’ hockey team. She graduated from Forest Grove High School.

She met Donald Anderson at a church roller skating party and they married on July 15, 1951. When Don was in the service they were stationed at a military base in Oakland, California and their first child Charlene was born. Cal and Sally Krahmer were also stationed there and Sally was instrumental in helping Lois get to the hospital for the birth of their first child as Don was in Japan at the time.

They moved back to the Cornelius, OR area after Don came home from the service and continued to build their family as Patti, Eileen, Eric and Holly were born in the following years. In her 20’s and early 30’s Lois was involved in helping Don with dairy

farming, selling milk out of the garage, a garden and summer canning, raising 5 small children and many other community commitments.

There were changes in location as Don continued his education. He was hired as a high school teacher in Vernonia, OR and over the next 5 years they were very involved in the small logging community with activities for high schoolers. They started a 5th Quarter after football games where kids could come and have a time of fellowship and fun. The parents fully supported this event and hosted them at their homes throughout the football season.

Lois took various jobs during her young family’s growing years, but always found time for the young teenagers coming to her for encouragement. Several times she would have them move in with the family to help them deal with their issues.  During the summer of 1971 they moved back to the family farm that Bernt and Rosa Anderson pioneered in 1931. They built a home on the property and Lois lived there for 5 years before their divorce.

She married Jack Killian in 1978 and she welcomed his children and grandchildren with open arms and open heart. Together they helped many foster children in their home.  She also taught Kindergarten at Living Hope Christian school for several years and helped oversee the Farmer’s Market in Forest Grove for a year.

Lois loved her family, gardening, reading, crafting and anything that was a new learning opportunities.
