Patrick Joseph Browne Obituary

Patrick Joseph Browne, 87, peacefully passed away on December 13, 2024. Pat was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. The son of Mr. Stephen F. and Pauline A. Browne, Pat was born on December 5, 1937. He graduated from Jesuit High School, Loyola University, where he was a member of the BEGGARS fraternity, and Loyola University College of Law. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served as a military policeman in Fontainebleau, France from 1962 – 1966. Prior to his retirement, he was a partner for many decades at the Montgomery Barnett law firm, where he handled a variety of commercial and litigation matters. He also taught a course in military justice at Loyola.

Pat is survived by his beloved wife of more than 57 years, Sue Toca Browne, and their four children, Patrick Joseph Browne Jr. (Kim), Lisanne Louise Browne McDearman (Scott), Stephen Brennan Browne (Tiffany), and Suzanne Marie “Mimi” Browne Brown (Eric). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papa: Emilie Louise “Emi” Brown, Suzanne Marie “Suzie” Brown, Caroline Louise McDearman, Carson Louise Browne, Harrison Patrick Brown, Ainsley LeFebvre Browne, and Catherine Marie McDearman. He was predeceased by his brothers Stephen F. Browne Jr. and John T. Browne, both of whom were Jesuit graduates, and his sister, Mary Browne Fitts Nicoll.

Pat was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and served on the Louisiana Supreme Court Committee on Bar Admissions and the Visiting Committee of Loyola University College of Law. Pat was a past member of Metairie Country Club and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Bienville Club, the Round Table Club, and several Carnival organizations. He was a proud member of the Jesuit High School class of 1956 and regularly attended their monthly class lunches. Pat was an avid duck hunter and fisherman, who fished well into his 80s. Pat was instrumental in starting the Christian Brothers School father-son fishing rodeo and the Jesuit High School fishing rodeo. He was a member of the Serra Club and a past member of Boys Hope of New Orleans. He enjoyed Friday lunches at the Bienville Club, evening lectures at the Round Table Club, and his Bible study group; after his retirement, Pat and Sue were background actors in numerous television shows and movies; if there was an event worth attending, he (along with his dry wit) and Sue were probably there.
