Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Hixson Funeral Home with Reverend Jesse Henderson & Jason Mercer officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton, Louisiana under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Hixson Funeral Home on Saturday, December 21st from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Charles “Pops” Evitte Williams age 85 of Jena, Louisiana, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, December 13, 2024. Charles was born January 15, 1939, in Natchez, Mississippi to the union of Roy Williams and Birtie Russell.
Charles moved to Elgin, Illinois and worked as a machinist for over 30 years, retiring from both McCanna and Harmony Metals before returning to live in Jena, Louisiana. He was a founding member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother, LeRoy Williams; sister, Margaret McKay; and grandson, Cody Williams.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Michael Williams (Cheryl) of Jena, La, & Martha Williams Mercer (Jason) of Pineville, La; four grandchildren, Katie Williams Valentine (Casey), Marisa Mercer, Jacob Mercer, and Connor Williams; one great granddaughter, Emmalyn Williams; and one sister, Billie Marie Hodges of Prairieville, La.
